Two weeks ago 4 records were broken but that would not be the case this weekend
due to an
early morning downpour on Saturday. I got there late and thought it my have been
called off, low cloud base and cold, but at the gate a hive of activity
could be seen and in the process of first practice and qualifying runs, no
time on Saturday no running on Sunday. First noticed the Bennett’s,
prepping the Cooper Mk V with blown JAP V twin, and then The Dent family,
with Johns MK VI, and just down the pits Ruth Ross and her T9 Cooper, so a
small field , One 500, 2 V twins, 2 Cooper Bristol’s, and one Cooper
bobtail, plenty of aero engine cars at this VSCC meeting, and loads of
Austin sevens of all shapes and body styles.
The hill was wet and slippery and a few off’s were the order of the day,
pockets hurt rather than drivers. The end of the first run saw a new face in
Alistair Hunt with his Juno Triumph T100 twin. At around 4:30, another downpour which then brought out a hint of the sun and warmed up, the track would
have to wait for Sunday. The next day brought a different type of problem, the
wind blew all day but the rain stayed away, no problems for John, only a
slight niggles with the clutch, the Juno running fine. Alistair clipping the
grass on Loggerheads and pulling him off track and a spin was inevitable,
Alistair’s weekend was not going well, a late start, and a fail so things can
only get better. Ruth was having a better time of it getting all her runs in
without a hiccup, and Andrew having two fails but putting up the best time of
the weekend, the engine not quite sorted with that new blower installation.
