| Seven 500s joined the 750 Trophy cars at Mallory Park, for the
final round of 2004. The Championship had already gone to James Culver but the remaining
podium positions were still undecided with Bob Culver and Geoff Gartside still in the
hunt. The weather remained dry for practice and race but was still slippery following the
overnight rain. In the race, it was John Turner who initially took the fight to the 750
Trophy cars but a blown engine, on lap three, left the way clear for Bob Culver to take
the class win with 4th overall and a 10 point haul. Geoff was never quite able to match
Bob's pace, taking second in class, followed by Shirley Monro, a further 14 seconds in
areas. John Chisholm made the finish in the Arnott is spite of on going fuel problems and
Roy Wright also suffered carburettor problems, retiring on lap 4. Paul Hewes enjoyed a
fine battle with Shirley until lap 7 when his gearbox failed. Classified Finishers |
