After the changeable weather conditions at Wiscombe Park,
I was looking forward to the good weather that was forecast for the Saturday
Prescott meeting…also after my twin spark magneto had failed at Wiscombe I
decided to revert back to my usual set up…
During the first practice both Charles Reynolds and Steve Lawrence had
problems with their cars – Steve’s Mk VIII Cooper gearbox playing up and
Charles’ head gasket blowing, Charles deciding to change his engine during
lunch fitting his trusty 4B JAP. On display in the paddock
at this ‘La vie en blue’ weekend were some very rare and unusual French
cars: 2006 F1 Renault; Bebe Peugeot; very large (and pointed) Voisen; an
equally large Panhard Levassor GP of 12.8 litres that Mr Toad would have
just loved; there was also a propeller driven (propelled?) car similar to
that featured in a recent VSCC article…and many, many, more…a Bugatti Veyron
also on display and demonstrated up the hill by Pierre-Henri Raphanel former
F1 driver.
After lunch the first timed runs were made in very good weather conditions
with all three cars closely timed only 1.4 seconds between us. Our final
runs in almost perfect conditions enabled myself to record a personal best,
Charles missing a gear on changing down for Pardon hairpin was slightly
slower, and Mike recorded an identical time to his first run. |
