The wettest Shelsley for a long time, water running
across the track at Crossing…a heavy mist at the top finishing straight…but
at least we were parked under cover in the paddock…
At this Classic Weekend there was a variety of cars from 1918-1980, from the
aero engined 27000cc Hispano Delage to our 500s, other air cooled in our
class included Terry Wright’s 1140cc Supercharged Walton Cooper JAP and Tony
Willoughby in the ex Henderson Supercharged Cooper Mk 7. Competing for the
first time in the ex John Poulson Staride was Chris Bird, the weather unable
to dampen his enthusiasm for the car or the event. James Gray and John Jones
(JB) sharing the Cousy were both new to Shelsley. JB’s effort to sort the
Cousy after its rebuild paying off with the car running well all day – but
it was James who proved to be the faster on the day – perhaps it is for the
best he now owns the Comet and is soon to be out competing in it!! Keith
Robinson brought his immaculate Cooper Mk V having reworked his clutch and
gear ratios to good effect going quicker with every run. Nice to see
Humphrey Collis and his JLR going well – beating his former school pupil JB
by nearly a second! My Staride was going quite well managing to find some
grip for a change in the wet. As usual the sun came out as we were loading
the cars on to their trailers for the trip home, but even that didn’t last
long, still never mind the weather, a day at Shelsley is always special. |
