Frank Bacon was an early pioneer of 500s and a regular during 1947 and '48. His first special was a front engined machine, based on an Austin Seven chassis with Rudge power through an Austin drive train, built with some assistance from Colin Strang. This was re-built into the rear engined machine, featured here, powered by a JAP engine driving through a Burman gearbox. Frank achieved a number of respectable placings and won at Brough in June '47. After 1948, he faded from the scene for a while but, in 1951, he returned with a new car based on a ladder frame and many Cooper parts plus the engine and gearbox from the second car.
