Laurence Pomeroy

Laurence Pomeroy was a Vice President of the 500 Club as well as President of the VSCC. He was also a brilliant engineer and played a significant role on the development of Vauxhall cars, including the Prince Henry Model, becoming chief engineer before leaving for America in 1919. He is best known today for the "Pom" which is an annual competition consisting of speed tests based on a handicap formula. Laurence was instrumental in obtaining an invite for the fledgling "half pint" brigade to the first post war race meeting organised by the VSCC at Gransden Lodge in July 1947.

The following is an extract from Iota, published in September 1948.
